How to make Shadu mati Ganpati

Anyone who has sense of proportion and who can make basic forms like sphere, cylinder and cone from clay can make a shadu mati Ganpati as described below.

Reasons to make your own shadu mati Ganpati Idol:
  1. Shadu mati is fun to play with and a very versatile material.
  2. Its eco-friendly
  3. Its reasonable
  4. You feel good about creating
  5. You feel good about contributing to the environment

Process:
  1. Soak Shadu mati (in Nashik you get it in Boharpatti for Rs. 20 per kg) in water for a day.
  2. For a small size Ganpati idol of height approximately 20 cm, 1.5 kg of shadu mati is sufficient.
  3. Keep the consistency like a dough or clay which will be easy to work.

Tips:

  1. Don't wear rings in your fingers.
  2. Cut your finger nails.
  3. Save some dry shadu mati for later use.
  4. Let shadu mati dry on hands to clean it, then its easy to remove like mehendi.
  5. Use refills, pens and ruler to carve and make detailing on the Idol

These are few of my Shadu mati finished Lord Ganesha idols for reference.

Be creative, have patience, enjoy and make a positive difference on the planet.

Best wishes,
Manju
